About SWAN Score

A little more perspective. A little less noise.

SWAN Score is a quiet place to look past a ticker’s latest price or headline yield and see how it has behaved through its own history. No trading prompts. No predictions. Historical evidence, explained plainly.

Why it exists

A ticker tells you a name. A price tells you what something costs today. A headline yield tells you what it recently paid relative to that price. None of them tells you how rough the road has been.

How far has it fallen before? How long did recovery take? If it pays distributions, have they been steady? How much history is there to look at? SWAN Score gathers those questions into one place, so you can slow down and take a closer look before you decide anything on your own terms.

Sleep Well At Night

SWAN is an old investing phrase for holdings that let people rest easier. We borrowed it as a reminder of the feeling many investors are looking for, not as a promise of investment safety or better sleep.

The swan is the metaphor: calm on the surface, constant motion underneath. A steady looking investment can carry a more complicated history below the waterline. The score is a way to look beneath it.

What the score looks at

Drawdown
How deep past falls went, and how long prices stayed below earlier highs.
Jumpiness
How much the price moved from one day to the next.
Income
How consistent payouts have been, only when distributions apply and the data is available.
History span
How much price history exists, measured against five years.

History span provides context, not extra points. Recent headlines are separate reading and do not change the score.

Closer to 100 means a calmer observed history; closer to 0, a rougher one. A higher score describes the past. It does not mean an investment is safe, and a lower score is not a forecast of loss.

How we try to build it

  • Evidence before opinion. Scores come from historical market and distribution data, not headlines or sentiment.
  • Context over a single number. Each result shows the signals behind it, so you can see why a score landed where it did.
  • Open to anyone. You can look up a ticker without creating an account. The site does use analytics and keeps limited operational logs, described on our Privacy page.

What it cannot do

SWAN Score is educational. It is not financial advice, a recommendation, or a buy or sell signal. It does not know your goals, timeline, or finances. Market data can be incomplete, delayed, or wrong, and short histories limit what any score can say. Past behavior does not predict future results. Read the Disclaimer for the full boundaries.
