Investing can result in substantial losses

Investment values and income can fall, and you may lose some or all of the money you invest. Risks can include market, issuer, credit, liquidity, concentration, interest-rate, currency, inflation, and operational risks. Leveraged products and trading with borrowed money can magnify losses and may expose you to losses greater than your initial investment.

Dividends and fund distributions can change, be reduced, or stop. A large yield or a consistent payout record does not guarantee future cash payments or protect your capital. Do your own research and, where appropriate, consult qualified, appropriately licensed professionals before making decisions.

What the score means, and what it does not

Higher scores mean calmer observed behavior under our scoring rules. Past performance does not predict future results. A high score does not mean an investment is safe, a low score does not predict a future loss, and a score of zero does not mean zero risk. Scores are not probabilities of loss, credit ratings, return forecasts, or guarantees of income, recovery, or principal protection.

“Sleep Well At Night” and the sleep-related score labels describe recorded market behavior under our rules. They do not promise financial security, better sleep, or any health outcome. Future losses can be larger or last longer than anything in the available history.

The model measures only part of the picture

SWAN Score summarizes selected historical price and distribution patterns under a particular methodology. It does not perform a complete review of an issuer’s finances, valuation, debt, management, governance, fraud exposure, or future prospects. A score cannot capture every risk or substitute for reading current issuer disclosures and fund documents.

Lookback windows, missing observations, corporate actions, provider adjustments, short histories, rounding, and methodology choices can affect results. The History span indicates the usable record’s time span, not a certification that the data is complete or that the asset has experienced every kind of market stress.

If there are no positive recorded distributions in the trailing 365 days ending at the latest available price date, Income is “Not scored” and contributes no weight to the overall total. Limited complete-year payout history restricts the evidence and credit available for Income. An unscored Income signal does not mean the whole asset is unscored, nor does it establish safety or prove that payouts have permanently stopped.

Very short but usable price records can receive a capped score. If required usable price data cannot be obtained, the tool returns an error rather than a score. A missing result is a data or availability limitation, not an investment judgment.

Comparisons with SPY or another benchmark provide context, not a claim that the assets have equivalent exposures or risks. Read the dates, conventions, warnings, and methodology alongside each result. Changes to data or calculation rules can change a score without a corresponding change in an asset’s current condition.

Data, news, and automated tools have limits

Market prices, distributions, security identifiers, headlines, and other third-party information may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, stale, unavailable, or revised. Cached results are not necessarily real-time information. Software, calculations, and automated retrieval can contain errors or omissions. We do not guarantee that every error will be detected or corrected, or that information will be updated on a particular schedule.

A successful request or the time you open a result does not establish that the underlying observations are current or independently verified. Check source dates and the observation period wherever provided; a history span is not a data-freshness timestamp. Confirm current prices and distributions with the issuer or an appropriate market-data source.

Headlines and linked articles belong to their publishers, may omit context, and do not affect the SWAN Score calculation. Verify material facts and publication dates with original sources. Do not use the site as a trade-execution system or rely on it as your sole source for a time-sensitive decision.

Examples are not your investment results

Hypothetical examples, illustrations, historical comparisons, and distribution-adjusted price series are educational. They are not records of your actual investment performance or promises that you could have achieved the results shown. Unless expressly stated, an illustration does not model your taxes, transaction costs, fees, bid-ask spreads, reinvestment choices, execution timing, or personal cash flows.

Distribution-adjusted price histories follow the provider’s adjustment conventions; they are not a simulation of your own reinvestment transactions. Verify the assumptions and distinguish cash distributions, price changes, and total returns.

Links, discovery lists, and potential conflicts

A ticker appearing in a suggestion, discovery list, article, or comparison is not a recommendation or endorsement. Public attention or social-media activity does not establish investment quality. Names and trademarks identify their respective owners and do not imply affiliation or approval.

External websites operate independently under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control their content, security, availability, products, or services. If a contributor has an investment or commercial interest in something mentioned, that interest may differ from yours. This general disclaimer does not replace any specific conflict-of-interest, sponsorship, or compensation disclosure required by law.

We may update this page as the service changes. The date above identifies the latest substantive revision, not a daily or automatic refresh. It does not change your non-waivable rights.
