A little data to run the tool. No account needed to look up a ticker.

SWAN Score is the name of this website and educational service. References to that name do not identify a separate legal entity.

When you look up a ticker

We send your ticker to our server. We request historical market data from Yahoo Finance and use it to calculate the score on request. We briefly cache market data, scores, and news to avoid repeated requests. These caches are shared service caches and are not personal account records. Scores are not saved to a visitor account.

We keep a private operational search log: the search time, ticker, response outcome, and response time. When a visitor address can be verified through a trusted proxy, we retain only a masked network address, not the full IP. Otherwise, no visitor network address is stored in this search log. We do not use the masked network address to identify individual visitors; a shared network can include different people. Cached and repeated searches are counted as separate requests.

For headlines, we send the ticker and security name to TinyFish. News is separate from the SWAN Score calculation. Suggested fund tickers may use aggregate public activity on X and are not based on your individual search history.

For public-site traffic, we use Google Analytics to measure page visits, interactions, valid ticker searches, and their outcomes. Our custom events use ticker symbols and fixed action labels, not raw typing, headline text, contact information, or private reports. Invalid input is grouped under an “invalid ticker” label rather than sent as entered. Headline-click custom events include the publisher’s domain, not the full article URL.

Google Analytics receives the public page URLs we configure and may also collect public outbound-link URLs through its enhanced measurement features. We remove unrecognized query parameters and fragments from the page URLs we configure for Analytics. The application does not forward account or email details, private reports, or its masked operational-log IP address to Google Analytics. Google may process browser/device information, cookies, and approximate location under its own Privacy Policy.

What stays in your browser

Music volume, repeat, and playback preferences are stored on your device in this site’s browser storage. Music is off on every new page load. You can remove these preferences by clearing this site’s browser storage. Google Analytics may also store cookies, which you can manage through your browser’s cookie settings.

Connections and contact

We keep basic request and error logs to operate the tool. Our hosting and service providers may receive connection details such as your IP address and browser information. Fonts are served by this site; Cloudinary serves the optional music when you play it. External providers handle requests under their own privacy policies.

The site owner’s separate sign-in uses Clerk, which processes sign-in information and session data under its own Privacy Policy. You do not need to sign in to look up a ticker.

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to send, and use it to respond and handle your request. Please do not send sensitive financial details.

Data retention

To protect the service, we keep temporary request counters and shared limits on headline-provider calls. Where a visitor network can be verified, a counter uses a hash of its masked network address, never a full IP. Otherwise, only shared service counters apply. Counters reset within a minute, an hour, or a day; automated cleanup targets expired counters every five minutes while the service runs. Outages can delay cleanup.

Private operational search reports cover a rolling 30-day window. Automated cleanup targets search records older than 30 days at service startup and every six hours while the service is running. Downtime, cleanup failures, or backlogs can delay removal. Saved copies of private reports are not removed by this cleanup.

Market-data, score, and headline caches have short reuse windows. Expired entries may remain in memory until replaced or cleared; these memory caches reset when the service restarts. Suggested-fund lists are stored separately as shared service data, not visitor records. Music preferences stay in your browser until you clear this site’s storage or your browser removes it.

The 30-day search-log window does not apply to Google Analytics, owner sign-in records, hosting and security logs, or email correspondence. Provider-held records follow separate settings and policies. Email is handled through our email service, not stored as an in-app contact record, and this website’s cleanup does not delete emails. Contact us with questions about specific records or retention.

What we do not collect

Visitors do not need an account to use SWAN Score, and we do not collect brokerage connections, portfolio holdings, or payment details from public-site visitors. The site owner has a separate sign-in for a private analytics page; private pages and account actions are not part of public-site analytics. Public Google Analytics measurement is separate from the private operational search log described above and from traffic and security records kept by hosting providers. We do not sell personal information.
